From infant to toddler
Today Bella turns 11 months old. Happy 11 months, Bella! During this past month she has developed a newfound awareness of the world around her. No longer does she sit and wait for things to happen for her. The TV is now fair game for her to turn on and off at will. If she wants to go somewhere, she'll climb into your arms and then yell until you stand up and take her where she demands. Gone are the days where she casually whimpers for food. Now, she'll rip that dumpling/doughnut/cookie right out of your hand and take it for herself. Yes sir, this girl is a Go-Getter. My how quick the transition is from infant to toddler!
Tongue-tied
Speaking of being a toddler, Bella's days of crawling, cooing, and cuddling are by far the most rewarding. She makes new noises every day. Her new skill is to point at random objects while she attempts to say the word. So far she has mastered the word "flower" by saying, "fuh-fuh". When she hears the neighbor's dog barking, she says, "uff, uff". And just today she expressed her interest in having cheese by saying, "tzss". Not exactly correct English, I know. Maybe we're developing our own mother-daughter lingo before she graduates to real English.
Daddy's Little Girl
They say that babies at Bella's age begin to form stong attachments to blankets or stuffed animals. They do so during this time of emotional change in order to give them a sense of security. So far, Bella has not expressed much interest in any particular object. She is, however, growing a fond attachment to Daddy - and he loves it! How can such a little 2 foot, 5 inch human bring so much happiness? Just ask Jin. Perhaps it's his sturdy wide shoulders that are preferrable for laying her head (compared to my sharp and bony ones), or maybe his infectious laugh (as noted by his friend, BadMuthaYu) draws her attention. No matter what the reason, it's clear I can't compete with some of his attractive offerings. This is what must go on inside her head:
"Boring ol' mom with the same lines and the same funny faces," she thinks to herself. "I hate nap time and mommy always puts me to bed even when i don't wanna sleep."
"Look, it's Fun Dad!" Bella thinks as she points excitedly at Jin. "Pick me up and let's go for a ride on the Daddy-mobile!"
"Ooooh, Daddy's giving me my favorite milk even though I'm supposed to only get snacks"
"Hey, Daddy doesn't make me take a nap when mom does, Cool!".
Don't get my wrong, I'm so glad that Bella has bonded with Jin as she has. Children, especially daughters, need the guidance and love that only a father can provide. And yet, I can't help but feel a slight pang of jealousy now that Bella has tossed me aside like a ragged old doll. I guess the tide changes quickly when it comes to our dear Bella's affection.
