This year Father's Day weekend we experienced a rare heat wave, with triple-digit heat in our neck of the woods. Fortunately for us, this meant moderately warm temperatures beach-side. It was the perfect opportunity to take the kids to Montara Beach near Half Moon Bay.
We trekked our way towards the secluded and almost desolate beach. It was a bit of a challenging traversing down the 45 degree slope, but when we finally made it down to the beach, the breathtaking view made it worth the wait.

Poor Maddie found the sand to be a little too foreign and refused to walk on it. She did the same first time she stepped in grass. The prickly sensation of grass on her legs or the sinking feeling of sand has always brought out the cautious nature in her. Here she is planting her feet firmly into the ground and whining to be picked up.
Despite the warm and sunny looks of the day, the water was as frigid as thawed ice. But that didn’t matter to Bella and her friends. They gladly ran into and out of the water, pretending to be chased by the crashing waves.

Eventually, Maddie warmed up enough to the sand to venture off the sand mat.
