Christmas 2006

at Monday, January 01, 2007

I'm a bit behind on the blog entries so let's take a step backward and revisit our Christmas 2006 Holiday:

As a child I remember Christmas as the time of year filled with traditions where bright and colorful decorations were hung around the house and the fresh smell of pine from the Christmas tree permeated the air. Each year our neighbors, The Eggers', would send us a huge plateful of assorted homemade cookies; cookies with sprinkles, cookies with caramel, toffee, powdered sugar... You name it, Mrs. Eggers would bake it. It was always such a treat to sink your teeth into one because each mouth-watering piece was like biting into a piece of heaven. No one in my house would admit it, but we all secretly conspired to save them to see how long the cookies would last. I think one year we managed to keep her cookies well into February the next year.

This year at the Yun Household, we've begun our own traditions. We may be a relatively new family, but old traditions were mixed with new ones and hopefully our own traditions will be remembered by Bella for years to come.

This year Grandma and Grandpa Yun came to visit, along with Uncle Sun, Autie Won and Uncle Ed. Our Christmas feast was no less spectacular than last year's Thanksgiving meal. We made the same turkey with gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, corn, and green beans. And to add a touch of tradition, we tried to pose for the same goofy picture as Uncle Ed (who is now the designated family turkey carver) slices into the juicy bird.

Here's last year's candid turkey picture:

This year's picture was a bit contrived since we were all were posing to get the right positions from last years pose. The people have been rearranged and BOY, do I look scary!

Maybe we'll forget about this tradition altogether...

Thanks to Ed's expert carving skills and everyone else's carnivorous appetite, our picture-perfect holiday meal that began as this:

"Ye, gads!"

The next holiday tradition was Won's now-famous chocolate chip cookies, baked with a full three sticks of artery-clogging butter. But that's what makes them so good! Plus she adds an additional "secret" ingredient that makes the fluffy cookies light but crisp. Delicious!

As expected, Bella scored many big toys for X-mas, including a toy barbie cart that plays 9 irritating, skin-crawling children's tunes every time she sits down on the seat or moves the gadgets on the console. Makes you want to snap the thing in two over your knee when the music starts. But the important thing is that Bella enjoys it. Over and over and over and over....

"Mine, mine, MINE!!!" Bella howls in delight as she thinks of the riches and spoils of her Christmas hunt.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
