Today we explored more of Florence by indulging in the great shopping. We walked the open air market where Dad found a beautiful hand-made Italian leather jacket. We went to several stores to find the right price, and Dad's patience paid off because we got a great deal! Here he is modeling his "cool" jacket:
The markets are filled with leather goods, scarves and hats, and fresh foods. Local shops display large cuts of fresh meat and beautiful pastries. Bella's clue today is: look for something that covers your head and you will find something that covers your feet. HARD clue. Good luck!
The sights of the city are filled with beautiful and sometimes creepy statues. Here's a statue of the Greek mythological character, Persius, who is shown holding the head of Medusa, the monster with the snake hair.
Medusa is probably the inspiration for the character in Monsters Inc, Mike Wozowski's girlfriend. She has snake hair, too! Maddie's clue is to look behind the place where you watch Monsters Inc. Bella, please help her if she needs.
Even though it was raining, the city was still crowded with people so we decided to take a bus ride to the Fashion Outlets. There were plenty of high-end designer shops at reduced prices. Fashion designers like Gucci, Prada, and Valentino all had stores in the Mall. And where there's great fashion at low prices, there's bound to be plenty of Asians! Dad and I were amazed at the sheer number of Asians flocking to the Mall. It was like Little Shang-hai!
When we returned to Florence, we went to another museum where there were beautiful paintings from famous Florentine artists like Boticelli, Da Vinci, and yes, Michelangelo. We tried to take pictures of some of these famous paintings, but I got yelled at by the museum guard, "No pictures!". Luckily, I was able to get a few pictures like Boticelli's famous painting, "Birth of Venus". Do you recognize this painting?
Venus is the Goddess of Love who is born from the ocean sea. She stands on a seashell, which depicts her purity in love and kindness. The two angels on the left are blowing Venus towards the land where another woman is waiting to cover her with a blanket.
