Today mommy and daddy are in the beautiful town of Florence, Italy. Florence is well-known for its many museums, home to many classic Renaissance artworks. It is also the home of Michelangelo's famous sculpture of "David" shown below. You might remember the story of David and Goliath. This is the statue of David preparing to fight Goliath. Notice in his right hand he is holding a rock and has his sling shot hanging over his left shoulder preparing to fight.
It took Michelangelo nearly 3 years to complete the statue and when completed, it stood 17 feet tall! Can you imagine how tall that is? If mommy, daddy, Bella and Maddie all stood on each other's shoulders, we still wouldn't be as tall as the statue! I think the statue would barely fit into our house near the piano. Now that's tall!
We saw many other exciting pieces of artwork and other architectural wonders, such as the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, the Accademia Gallery, and the Pitti Palace.
